Congregational Resource Guide
Finding the right resources for your congregation
Congregations looking to fund special ministry projects can find potential funders and learn important grant-seeking skills through the Foundation Center. The Center curates information on over 140,000 philanthropies worldwide. The website offers resources such as tutorials and search tools. Training events, some free, provide instruction on finding grants, writing proposals, board training, and more. The Center’s core service is the Foundation Directory Online (FDO). The FDO is a constantly-updated database of funders, their grant requirements, and grant-making history. Access to the FDO is by paid subscription and the Funding Information Network (FIN). There are more than 450 FIN sites nationwide, usually public libraries, which host a core collection of print and electronic resources. The Center’s website enables users to search by zip code for the nearest FIN location. Visitors to the website can also sign up for free e-newsletters for up-to-date news and information on the world of philanthropy.
