article

If one had to choose only one resource for understanding and implementing ministry with older adults, this issue of Lifelong Faith Journal is the one to have. Chock full of theoretical and practical information from across the adult faith formation landscape, the contributors cover what a congregation needs to know, why it matters, and what to do about it. An essay by Sr. Janet Schaeffler, elaborates the 5 categories of endeavor that balance the “eldering life”. The closing piece by Richard Gentzler is a two-page “How-To” on older adult ministry, including “seven things to think about” that can help leaders get underway. Recommended reading and links to further resources make for a broad and deep information pool. The writers are mainline Protestant and Roman Catholic, but their message is for anyone serious about serving this growing population. It can be downloaded free of charge.
