“Renewal periods are not vacations, but times for intentional exploration and reflection, for drinking again from God's life-giving waters.” Christian clergy and their congregations are eligible for sabbatical grants through Lilly Endowment’s Clergy Renewal Programs. Grants of up to $50,000, including as much as $15,000 for congregational expenses, are awarded annually through two separate programs, the {{Clergy Renewal Program for Indiana Congregations | http://www.cpx.cts.edu/renewal/apply/-indiana-program}} and the {{National Clergy Renewal Program | http://www.cpx.cts.edu/renewal/apply/national-program}} for congregations in all other states. For many recipients, the pastor’s structured time apart leads to regained “enthusiasm and creativity for ministry” for both the pastor and the congregation. Two helpful planning documents can be found on their website: “What Makes a High-Quality Proposal?” and “Grace Notes”, a collection of wisdom and advice from former grant recipients. Lilly Endowment’s Renewal Programs are administered by the Center for Pastoral Excellence at Theological Christian Seminary.
