Congregational Resource Guide
Finding the right resources for your congregation
Those seeking to become an apprentice of Christ and his way of life will find a number of inspiring and practical opportunities through this organization. Housed on the campus of Friends University, the Apprentice Institute was founded by 20 year theology professor and former United Methodist pastor, James Bryan Smith. Each year, they host a national spiritual formation conference. In addition, they engage an ongoing conversation via their blog about all things spiritual formation. The Institute provides consultation and training for local churches and a rich discipleship curriculum based on Smith’s “The Apprentice Series” books, the first of which is entitled, The Good and Beautiful God: Falling in Love With the God Jesus Knows. The touchstone of this organization is its emphasis on soul-training: putting biblical theology into practice. “The Apprentice Series”, designed to be processed in community with others, has exercises and discussion questions at the end of each chapter, making it ideal for use with small groups within a congregation. A broad spectrum of Christian faith traditions will find this organization and their materials enriching.
