Vital: Churches Changing Communities and the World

book
by Jorge Acevedo. Abingdon Press, 2012.

Jorge Acevedo is a United Methodist pastor in Florida, whose Grace Church has grown into a multi-site, multi-ethnic ministry. Acevedo has realized vitality in his congregation through an outward focus and a mission of helping people, notably with addiction recovery. Through this book he shares the story of that vitality and engagement, and how through accountable leadership, an equipped congregation can worship, form disciples in small groups, and engage in powerful outreach in the local community and around the world. He notes that “Highly vital congregations strategically implement outreach and mission that is local and global.” This resource will be of interest to congregations that are at a decision point when their life together and in their communities has changed, and it offers encouragement from those who’ve already seen vitality in places where only a few years earlier there was little hope for the future.
