Worship Matters: Leading Others to Encounter the Greatness of God

book
by Bob Kauflin. Crossway Books, 2008.

This book comes highly recommended from the evangelical and non-denominational world. The author, Bob Kauflin , serves as Director of Worship Development for Sovereign Grace Ministries. The book provides a clear set of guiding principles for worship leaders. The guiding principles are: Do what God clearly commands. Don’t do what God clearly forbids. Use scriptural wisdom for everything else. The author writes, “We recognize God hasn’t given us a prescribed order of service that defines biblical worship. But we seek to faithfully apply biblical precepts and examples.” It moves from a conceptual and theological framework to more practical matters. This is a book that a worship team for a non-denominational, evangelical or mainline congregation interested in enhancing worship could study. In many instances, the book offers something like spiritual direction for worship leaders; it is both personal and congregational in its point of view. The annotated bibliography in the back is a fine resource, too.
