This book comes from a Leadership Network series. Leadership Network began in 1984 and seeks to foster innovation movements that activate congregations to greater impact. The authors use the metaphor of a road trip to take readers on a multisite journey. Stops along the way allow readers to consider the wide variety of multisite congregations, differences between church planting and campus planting, the dynamics of finding the right location, and the use of technology. Each chapter contains case material from a particular multisite congregation. The book takes you on a cross country trip that moves from Hawaii to South Carolina (and many places in between). One of the appendixes contains a list of discussion questions. This makes the book a helpful tool for a group of people considering multisite dynamics. You wouldn’t necessarily need to read the book cover to cover to learn. Because each chapter addresses a specific issue, you could start with the chapter that most closely defines your current multisite challenge. If your key question is about how quickly you scale up, start with chapter 12 on whether or not to start more than one campus at once. If you are concerned about multiplying leaders, look to chapter 13. Wherever you begin the trip, you will find information that helps you think and act strategically about your congregation and the multisite reality.
