Hundreds of congregations have benefitted from clergy sabbatical grants since the Louisville Institute, supported by the Lilly Endowment, Inc, began funding them over twenty years ago. Today, the Lilly Endowment continues to fund its signature Clergy Renewal Programs. This website features essays by recipient pastors who describe their renewal process and the ways in which they and their congregations have been enriched as a result. Of special interest to those who feel a sabbatical grant is out of reach is the article by Allen Burris entitled, “An Invitation to Rest: What a Clergy Renewal Grant Can Do for You.” In it, he assures readers that the program is, indeed, for "unknown servants working with unknown churches." Whether leaders are exploring the idea of sabbatical or just looking for well-told stories of re-charged pastors and congregations, this site is sure to hearten and inspire.
