While there are many resources available for self-directed strategic planning, some congregations choose to partner with a consultant who can bring experience, knowledge, and an objective voice to the planning process. This tool is for congregational leaders who are considering hiring a consultant or professional resource to assist them in reaching their planning goals. It covers four topics: (1) Scope of Work, including elements of a “Request for Proposal” (RFP) and sample questions; (2) steps in managing the Selection Process and making your decision; (3) elements to include in a Service Agreement; and (4) sample questions for Evaluation of the project itself and the relationship with the consultant. Developed by the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF), the tool can be easily adapted by use by any congregation. ECF is an independent, lay-led organization that helps congregations and other Episcopal groups develop leadership and raise resources for ministry.
