Congregational Resource Guide
Finding the right resources for your congregation
“Signs do more than just point the way. They help visitors feel welcomed, direct people safely through a building, and communicate the culture and feel of an organization.” So says the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in this article designed to help religious organizations assess how their signage adds or detracts from their identity, values, and mission. Both indoor and outdoor signs are addressed. Are they well-lit? Can they be read from a reasonable distance? Can adults and children quickly and easily find restrooms? Is the graphic design and language consistent, and does it reflect the character and priorities of the congregation? Other questions address safety issues, such as whether emergency exits are clearly visible. These and other questions can be used by any congregation to evaluate the use and condition of its signage and determine any needed changes.
