If your congregation wants a missional presence in your neighborhood, check out this list of twenty-five practical, inexpensive, and easily implemented ideas from pastor and church planter Josh Reeves. One or two people can accomplish most of the ideas: dog walking, hosting a movie night, or attending neighborhood or homeowner’s meetings. Others require a group effort, such as organizing playdates, exercise groups, or food or clothing drives. Not all of the ideas are applicable for all congregation members. One, for example, suggests that you “stay outside in the front yard longer while watering the yard.” This idea works only for those who have lawns and who have no water-use restrictions. However, hosting a “game night,” organizing an Easter Egg Hunt, or creating a neighborhood communications network will work in many, many contexts. The ideas are generally unrelated to specific religious traditions, making this resource valuable for diverse congregations.
