Center for a New American Dream

Charlottsville, VA. (301) 891-3683.

With its goal of shifting our cultural emphases from buying and consuming to fulfillment and sustainability, the Center for a New American Dream works with individuals and organizations to conserve the environment and counter commercialization. The Center’s faith based programs include “Alternative Gift Fairs,” “Turn the Tide” (nine measurable actions with immediate impacts), and “Green Purchasing” (helping churches and synagogues conserve resources by addressing global warming, energy conservation, deforestation, pesticide and toxic use, biodiversity, and waste reduction). Its Web site provides links to faith groups concerned with voluntary simplicity and the environment; it also lists religious and spiritual resources on simple living that can be used in adult education classes, small group discussions, or youth programs.
