Cherubim Of Gold: Building Materials and Aesthetics

by Peter E Smith. Liturgy Training Publications, 1993.

Smith argues that prefabricated, functional materials used for church structures robs the congregants of the mystery and awe that are prompted by use of natural materials such as marble, limestone, brick, terra cotta, and oak. Although written from a Roman Catholic perspective, readers from any faith tradition will be prompted to think about what is communicated by the materials that create their sacred spaces.
