Haffner, Debra

We learned last fall of a dynamic faith-based sexuality education curriculum we would like to implement in our synagogue. In November 2002, Congregation Beth-El Zedeck hosted Debra Haffner, co-director of the Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing, author of two award-winning books and the co-author of a college textbook on human sexuality. She introduced a program, Our Whole Lives (OWL), developed by the Unitarian Universalist Church, that integrates sex education into the religious education of a well-rounded child. We would like to adapt this curriculum to a Jewish audience. We have begun to develop a lesson plan and to identify volunteer teachers, and would like to invite Debra Haffner to participate in a weekend of training in the teaching of healthy Jewish sexuality. We hope to be able to fund the training in December of 2003, for introduction into our Religious School classes beginning in Spring 2004.
