Houses of God Region, Religion, and Architecture in the United States

book
by Peter W. Williams. University of Illinois Press, 2000.

This book began as a photographic exhibit on the theme of regionalism and American religious architecture. It divides the United States into seven regions – New England; The Mid-Atlantic States; The South; The Old Northwest; The Great Plains and The Mountains; The Spanish Borderlands; and The Pacific Rim. A chapter is devoted to each region and includes pictures of houses of worship from a variety of faith traditions and an essay about the unique features of the region and the sacred places found therein. This book provides a broad pictorial perspective on houses of worship throughout the country. (From SSGI Booklet, Spring 2005.)
