Missional Church: A Vision for the Sending of the Church in North America

(Darrell L. Guder). Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1998.

“Mission is not just a program of the church,” say the contributors to this radical call for a change in our understanding of the church’s nature. Mission defines the church as God’s sent people. There is much marketing and personalizing of spiritual experience today and the church can simply mirror cultural values. God is the source of the church’s mission and the church is the unique body of those who respond and are empowered by God to empower others. Our mandate is to move from “doing” to “being” mission; from church with mission to missional church. This book revisions a missional encounter of the gospel with North American culture. It will help congregational leaders foster individual and communal witness by modeling the reign of God in local settings so that members will be a witness of integrity in their places of influence.
