Scientists in Congregations

web resource
Accessed April 19, 2017.

This website, emerging from a grant program of the John Templeton Foundation, provides a wealth of multimedia educational materials to encourage congregational dialogue exploring the coexistence of science and theology. Educational materials emerged from 35 local congregations who were given a grant to explore science and faith. Contributors are congregations from Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Christian Reformed, ELCA, and other denominations. Co-project leaders Greg Cootsona and David Wood are ordained Presbyterian and American Baptist pastors respectively. Organic congregational dialogue resulted in topics such as an introduction to theology and science, the history of theology and science, evolution and creation, cosmology, and neuroscience. Free materials include course curricula, sermons, presentations, videos and handouts. Video testimonies about how the programs evolved are located under the Using This Site tab. This site is a good starting point for congregations wanting to explore the coexistence of science and faith, whether they want to use the curricula or develop their own.
