Interfaith Power & Light (IPL) was started by Episcopal Churches in California in 2005 to provide a religious response to global warming. The organization is now comprised of many religious affiliates in over 38 states. Believing that the religious community should take the lead in being faithful stewards of creation, IPL provides a host of programs and resources to help congregations act to combat global warming and practice sustainable living. Current programs include Cool Congregations, which analyzes and helps implement wise energy uses, Preach-in on Climate Change, taking the Carbon Covenant, and Cool Harvest, which advises on fall energy issues. The IPL website contains a shop featuring films, DVDs and other resources to education congregation members on climate change issues. Links to state-by-state affiliates, investment resources, and state-by-state solar resources are also included. For any congregation interested in learning about climate change issues and how to respond effectively, this is a very helpful organization.
