Concerned that the theological underpinnings of the Christian small group movement are theologically shallow, Dr. Icenogle seeks to provide a biblically based theological framework for small group ministry. He proceeds from three biblical bases for small groups: Old Testament foundations, Jesus’ model and Apostolic foundations. His approach attempts to be both inductive, allowing scripture to speak to the topic at hand, and integrative, listening to the dialogue of various other disciplines for insight. This book is not a how-to for small group programs, but rather a work for those who are seeking to understand why small group ministry is important based on the sacred texts of the Christian faith. Dr. Icenogle previously served as Director of the D. Min. program at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he taught the doctoral course in small groups.
