Boomer Volunteer Engagement: Facilitator's Tool Kit

by Jill Friedman Fixler, Beth Steinhorn. 2010.
Large boomer volunteer engagement

Organizational consultants Jill Fixler and Beth Steinhorn created the Facilitator’s Tool Kit to expand on a 2008 book by Fixler and Sandie Eichberg, Boomer Volunteer Engagement. (Reading the 2008 book is recommended reading for implementing the Tool Kit). Their secular work is designed to help non-profit groups involve, engage, and sustain baby boomers and succeeding generations as volunteers. Their plan places a staff person and a volunteer as co-leaders who are responsible for forming and overseeing a task force and guiding a volunteer initiative through the organization. The task force implements and oversees a project that can be evaluated and coincides with the organization’s goals. Other steps include preparing the organizational culture for volunteer engagement and maintaining volunteer engagement. The Tool Kit uses stories from non-profits who have used the process as case studies. Various congregations will find the Tool Kit user-friendly, clear, and practical to implement.
