Trending now? Externally focused or what are called “missional” congregations, says Eric Swanson, author and Leadership Network’s Community Director. Swanson narrates this YouTube video that describes missional churches and their perspective. Swanson shares stories from missional churches where service to “outsiders” is integral and where expressions of love of neighbor are evident by the service rendered. Swanson notes that millennials “experience Jesus in fresh ways” when they serve others. Swanson adds that missional congregations learn that there is joy in service and that action and compassion go together. Additionally, Swanson says that in some missional churches “belonging” is a higher priority than “believing.” Swanson shares other observations, information, and practical ideas, making this a great conversation starter for Christian congregations who are rethinking what it means to be “church.”
