Carter and Patrick are experienced urban church planters and mega-church pastors. Yet, they realize that the urban witness of the church is struggling under the changes of contemporary culture. More and more urban residents are not involved in congregations. How can these changes be addressed? The book describes the experiences of these two pastors in their ministry settings. Matt Carter ministers in Austin, Texas. In addition to proclamation of the gospel, his congregation has organized missional communities, rather than small groups. These communities connect in ministry with nonprofit organizations dealing with social services. Darrin Patrick serves in St. Louis where his congregation emphasizes social justice ministries, connection with the arts community, and sponsoring a counselling center. Of particular interest in this work is the honest evaluation of what has not worked in their ministries as they have served. This is a short but engaging work that inspires and offers hope to urban congregations.
