God's EPIC Adventure: Changing Our Culture by the Story We Live and Tell

by Winn Griffin. Harmon Press, 2013.

Contemporary Christians tend to approach scripture in a scattershot way that fails to capture its overall storyline or metanarrative. Veteran Bible teacher, Griffin, has written a thoughtful and thorough guide to the narrative thread that connects the Bible’s stories into a unity of meaning for Christians today. The author is especially determined to foster serious study of the Old Testament, which provides the historical background and context for Christianity. He asserts that one cannot fully understand the early church of the New Testament, with its frequent references to Hebrew texts, without it. The Appendix invites a deeper exploration of select topics such as images of God in Hebrew scripture and “The Kingdom of God from Augustine to (N.T.) Wright.” While lengthy and somewhat demanding, this book would be of value to serious students.
