Leadership That Fits Your Church: What Kind of Pastor for What Kind of Congregation

by Deborah Bruce, Cynthia Woolever. Chalice Press, 2012.

Researchers and authors Cynthia Woolever and Deborah Bruce (1955-2012) believe that clergy satisfaction and congregational health are intertwined. Their work promotes an in-depth understanding of the challenges of pastoral leadership and clarity around congregational identity, seeing this combination as helpful for search committees to choose the most appropriate clergyperson for their congregation. Their research includes a variety of denominations and congregation sizes, and insights from search experiences of three Christian churches (one Roman Catholic and two Protestant). Additionally, the authors share interview results from thousands of other pastors, lay leaders, and congregational members. The challenges of contemporary clergy leadership, the lessons learned from congregational history, the dynamics of conflict and congregational change, and different clergy leadership styles are just a few of the topics addressed. This work is appropriate for pastors, search committees, and lay leaders from a variety of Christian traditions. The book has a study guide (J. Brent Bill, author) available at {{Chalice Press.com | http://www.chalicepress.com/assets/pdfs/LeaderGuideLeadershipThatFits.pdf}}.
