After defining and explaining narrative budgets, this document helps readers transform their former line-item budgets into narrative budgets. Narrative budgets tell a congregation’s story, hopes, and vision in such a way that congregants are enlivened, excited, and committed to financially support ministry. The transformation process involves nine steps, from a review of the former line-item budget to deciding how to use the narrative budget most effectively in all congregational communications. Step seven, for example, suggests using a pie chart of the budget as a visual aide for congregants and provides one as a model. Additionally, the document has a link to a narrative budget workbook which includes a narrative budget template. Congregations of all varieties who desire to emphasize the ministries that budgets support will find this document and the links effective, helpful, and user-friendly.
