This booklet helps congregational leaders identify the competencies that help them prevent suicide and care for people impacted by suicide. The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention believes that faith leaders have a unique position in supporting people’s mental health and intervening with people at risk for suicide.



To help leaders become effective in supporting others' mental health, the book outlines competencies leaders need to have in prevention, intervention, and communication. The competencies also address what leaders need to know about responding to a death by suicide and working in specific ministry settings, such as a military, hospital, or educational setting.
