Convinced that “faith is more often caught than taught,” Homegrown Faith sets out to “help parents choose simple yet meaningful ways of living and teaching the Catholic faith at home.” With insight and humor, award-winning photographer and mother of six, Heidi Bratton, utilizes the fodder of everyday life with children to launch each entry in this weekly devotional format. A year’s worth of reflections is organized according to the liturgical year. Each one includes a short essay with a scripture passage and anecdotes from the author’s experience as a Catholic wife and mother. An action/reflection section called “growing spiritually this week” invites the reader to go deeper. Although this book is primarily addressed to Catholic families, its insights and anecdotes are accessible to a wider audience. Special instructions are provided for using the book for personal or group devotions, for personal daily prayer, and as a guide for group prayer.
